What to install before you land in Croatia

The eSIM gets you online — these are the local apps it unlocks the moment you arrive.

  • HŽ Putnički Prijevoz

Croatian Railways app — Zagreb–Split overnight + regional services. Limited coastal connections (Dubrovnik has no rail).

  • Jadrolinija

The dominant ferry app — every island route from Split, Zadar, Rijeka and Dubrovnik. Book day-of for popular Brač + Hvar runs.

  • Bolt

Bolt dominates Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik + Pula. Uber operates but is patchy outside Zagreb.

  • Komoot

Better than Google Maps for the Plitvice + Krka park trails and the Istrian peninsula’s gravel routes.

Local prepaid SIM vs. our free eSIM in Croatia

What you’d pay at the airport SIM kiosk — and what you save by activating the eSIM before you fly.

Local prepaid SIM
Hrvatski Telekom (HT) / A1
~€15· 10 GB
ID required — Passport at any HT or A1 shop; peak-season Split / Dubrovnik airport queues hit 45 min when cruise ships are in port.

The shelf price is fine; the cruise-day queue is the real cost.

Free eSIM for Croatia FAQs by co:sim

Everything you need to know about the free new-user eSIM offer.

Will the eSIM work on Hvar, Korčula, Brač, Vis?
Yes at main ports and towns — Hvar Town, Jelsa, Korčula Town, Bol, Supetar all have full 4G. Remote beaches + interior trails may drop; save offline maps.
Is Plitvice Lakes covered?
Only partially. Entry 1, Entry 2, the restaurants and the boat dock get reliable 4G; the Upper Lakes loops can go dark. Download offline maps.
Can I use it on a ferry between the islands?
Short hops (Split–Brač, Split–Šolta, Zadar–Ugljan) stay connected. Longer coastal runs like Split–Dubrovnik have 15–20 min mid-channel gaps.
Does it work when I drive into Montenegro or Bosnia?
The eSIM does NOT cover Montenegro or Bosnia. The Dubrovnik–Kotor route crosses the Bosnian coastal strip near Neum — switch data roaming off before the border.
Who's eligible for the free eSIM?
New users who have not previously claimed a free eSIM. Eligibility is verified at checkout.
Will I be charged anything?
$0 is charged for the free eSIM. A valid card is collected at checkout for verification only — this prevents the same person claiming multiple free eSIMs. You only pay if you choose to top up later.
How long is the free eSIM valid?
Install and activate the eSIM within 30 days after purchase. Once activated, the free plan is valid for 7 days from your first connection. After that, top up anytime to extend the validity — the same eSIM keeps working.
Can I top up or buy more data after?
Yes. Top up the same eSIM with any paid plan at any time — your data and validity extend instantly, no reinstall required. You can also buy plans for any of our 190+ other destinations.
Can I claim the free eSIM again?
No. This free eSIM is a new-user offer, so it can only be claimed once.
How does the free plan compare to paid plans?
Same high-quality network coverage. Paid plans offer more data and longer validity — and you can top up onto your free eSIM at any time.
