Does the free eSIM work inside Vatican City?
Yes. The Vatican has no national mobile network — phones connect to Italian TIM / Vodafone towers around St Peter’s, so the free eSIM is treated as domestic. No roaming indicator appears.
Will it work on the vaporetti in Venice?
Vaporetto lines 1, 2, N and the Alilaguna airport shuttle all stay covered — TIM maintains strong coverage along the Grand Canal and across the Lagoon. Some inland calle alleys still drop briefly between palazzi.
Can I use the eSIM on a ferry to Capri or Sardinia?
Short coastal crossings (Naples → Capri, the Messina Strait) stay connected. Open-sea overnight routes like Livorno → Olbia lose signal mid-Mediterranean and reconnect once you’re back within tower range.
Is the Rome Metro covered?
All three lines (A, B, C) are fitted with tunnel antennas — 4G works at platform level and between stations. The newer Line C around San Giovanni has the cleanest 5G.
Do I need a codice fiscale like for a physical SIM?
